What is the NSW MR License?
The Medium Rigid License is the highest class of license you can attain before reaching the Heavy Rigid License. For that, you need to pass MR license test. After attaining this license, drivers are able to drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) between 8,001 kg and 15,000 kg. These include buses, coaches, and prime movers. It is the next step up from a Heavy Rigid License.
To obtain a Medium Rigid License, candidates must first hold a current Heavy Rigid License for at least 12 months. However, the length of time required to hold a Heavy Rigid License before obtaining a Medium Rigid License varies state by state. In New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria, candidates must hold their License for a minimum of two years before they are eligible to start training for their Medium Rigid License. In Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, candidates can apply as soon as they have held their HR License for one year.
If you want to pass your driver’s license exam, then use an easy to use MR license practice test. It won’t just help you pass the test, but it will also be useful for passing on your first attempt.
This is important because you need to know this so that you can get a license and drive a vehicle on public roads. You need to understand that the driver’s license for this vehicle type is a provisional license, and it is not an actual license.
What is the difference between an HR and MR License?
Heavy Rigid (HR) License is a medium rigid truck License, with a minimum requirement of 18 years of age. This is the most popular vehicle driven by those in the truck driving industry.
The main difference between an HR and MR license is the type of vehicle covered under each License class. HR vehicles are classified as having more than two axles and a total GVM over nine tonnes, whereas MR vehicles are classified as having a maximum of two axles and a total GVM over eight tonnes (and any trailer being towed by an MR vehicle must not weigh over nine tonnes).
How To Become A Medium Rigid MR Driver?
Medium Rigid (MR) License holders can drive any rigid vehicle with two axles and a GVM of more than 8 tonnes. It is this License class that allows you to drive a bus with a seating capacity of more than 12 adults (including the driver).
To obtain either a Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid License, you must first hold an open car License for at least one year. You will also need to complete a medium or heavy rigid prerequisite driving course. This course is designed to give you the basic skills and knowledge required for driving a medium or heavy rigid vehicle.
Once you have completed the prerequisite medium or heavy rigid driving course, you will be issued with a certificate that allows you to book your medium or heavy rigid License test with Roads & Maritime Services (RMS). During the MR license test, an RMS testing officer will assess your driving skills in areas such as reversing, turning and general manoeuvring.
Once you have successfully completed the test, you will be issued with your Medium Rigid (MR) License.

The MR driving License can be used to drive vehicles in the following classes:
LR - Light Rigid

A heavy rigid vehicle also includes rigid trucks, prime movers, concrete agitator trucks, small fire trucks, refrigerated trucks, and tilt tray tow trucks.
What are the main objectives of the MR License test?
The main objectives of the MR License test is to improve road safety for the general public and other road users by ensuring that only suitably trained and competent people drive medium rigid vehicles. To promote responsible driver behaviour and the safe carriage of loads on heavy vehicles to ensure those vehicles are operated efficiently, safely, and with minimal impact on the environment.
To reduce the incidence of injury and death involving drivers of medium rigid vehicles and to optimise access for drivers and employers of drivers of medium rigid vehicles to job opportunities both in Victoria and interstate through the implementation of nationally consistent licensing standards, testing procedures, and licensing requirements for heavy vehicle drivers.
Provide drivers with an appropriate level of training and licensing for MR vehicles, and also ensure that only legally licensed drivers operate MR vehicles on public roads. Moreover, improve road safety by reducing the number of accidents involving MR vehicles and other road users and reduce the misuse of MR vehicles.
What are the benefits of having an MR license Test?
You can drive a medium rigid vehicle with a GVM greater than 8,000 kg, or a vehicle with two axles and a GVM greater than 8,000 kg. You can tow a trailer that has a GVM greater than 9,000 kg provided the combined gross vehicle mass (GVM) of the trailer and towing vehicle is not more than 18,000 kg.
Furthermore, you can tow any trailer if you are driving an articulated bus or articulated truck. Most people who drive an MR vehicle will be doing so as part of their employment, but there are a number of reasons why someone might want to obtain one for personal use. Having the ability to drive an MR truck can open up new job opportunities and increase earning potential, as well as being able to drive a variety of vehicles in different situations.
These types of vehicles can be used on most roads and highways and are an excellent choice when looking at towing large trailers or caravans. Most MR vehicles have far more power than a standard passenger car, making it easier to carry heavy loads and tow heavier items. These vehicles also have excellent fuel economy, offering a better range than many other larger trucks.
